Question & Answer Time!
Posted on September 22 2022
Welcome back to our blog! This week I am answering various questions about my business and how I started. There will be some great tips so read all the way through! Please feel free to comment with any other questions that didn't get covered this week. Most of these questions were pulled from our Instagram after asking our followers what they were curious about!
Q: How do you find inventory?
A: The best way is to go to wholesale markets. They hold them in various cities like Atlanta, Vegas, Miami, and New York. I like buying this way because I can actually feel and look at the items I am buying instead of just shopping online. Once I find my favorite brands that I know the quality is good, I shop those brands online! I like to go to market about 2-3 times a year to see new brands and trends that are upcoming.
Q: When did you start?
A: I started as soon as I dropped out of college in 2020. I was 20 years old and wanted to create a business that I knew Savannah needed. I started with an online store and 7 months later had a brick and mortar location.
Q: Why did you decide to open a boutique?
A: I have always loved fashion, but knew the lack thereof in the plus size department. I wanted to provide cute and affordable fashion in all sizes because it is so difficult to find cute plus size clothing. I saw a need in the market and went after it.
Q: Do you carry mens clothing?
A: I do not at the moment but I hope to in the future. The selection for mens clothing is a lot smaller than women's in the manufacturing industry. I have found some men's brands that I am interested in carrying in the future! Stay tuned!
Q: What made you choose Savannah?
A: I came to Savannah for college and instantly fell in love with the city. From the people, architecture, food, and ambiance. I knew it would be the perfect place for a business. Especially with how many tourists come and go, I knew I would always be seeing new customers. There are plenty of areas with great foot traffic and a lively atmosphere.
Q: Any plans for the future?
A: My main goal for the future is to grow and open more locations. I want to bring more plus size options to cities everywhere. I also wouldn't mind having a larger space for more inventory. I hope to grow my website and online presence as well.
Q: What is your favorite part of owning a boutique?
A: My favorite part of the job is that I get to design and pick out everything that goes into my store. I am a very creative person and my boutique allows me to express my creativity in so many different ways. I love taking photos and styling the clothing. I also get to design all the event flyers, branding, and general layout of the store! I am always rearranging and trying new things.
Q: Any advice on starting a business?
A: Start now. Create the instagram, think of a name, and start building your brand. It is never too soon to get the word out there and start bringing attention to your business.
Q: What are your favorite styles at the moment?
A: I love a cute patterned maxi skirt with a graphic tee. It's the most comfortable style while still looking super put together and stylish at once!
Q: Any good marketing tips?
A: I am not a pro at marketing but social media has been a great way for me to connect with my customers and share my products. Instagram is my main tool where I post content and message with customers. It easily leads them to my store where they can purchase my clothing. Having a regular posting schedule helps keep your account relative to your followers.
Q: Are you from Savannah?
A: No, I am from Ohio but have been in Savannah since 2019! I moved down here for college and decided to stay for my business.
Q: What could you not live without?
A: Definitely my dog Honey. She is my little companion that goes everywhere with me. She loves to work at the shop and bring lots of smiles to my customers.
Q: Who is your inspiration?
A: When I was starting out I watched other boutique owners but only really related to the owner of Nomad Boutique, Alli. She had a great sense of style and I loved that she was also younger. Her YouTube videos really helped me out and inspired me to start my boutique!

How true to size do your clothes run? I am usually a size 18/20 or a 2X.
